Podcasts

During my work experience at a TAFE library, I had the opportunity to work on selecting podcasts that were relevant to the different areas of study available at TAFE.

One of the website that had a very good collection of podcasts was the ABC website. On this website, there is a list of podcasts on different subjects and ABC networks. (http://www.abc.net.au/services/podcasting/default.htm)

ABC website also allows us to subscribe to the podcasts using RSS Feeds. (I subscribed to one on Science topic).

Vodcasts (Video podcasting) are also available for download from ABC website.

As we can see from the University of Sydney's YouTube channel, the University is using YouTube to promote itself. The video on 'Search Smarter, Search Faster' from the Library is also on this channel and I think this is a good example of how we could use vodcasts to provide information literacy skills on the web, not just for our students, but also for the public to use.

Here I'm just testing to see if I can post this video clip on my blog.

Wk.3 ~~ Images

Yeah, now I find a place where I can search for photos of different places around the world !

I looked at the Apps and I saw 2 Flickr Apps called 'Mappr' and 'Trippermap', and they made me think of us having similar app for the University and our library on Flickr.

Imagine if we have an app that has USYD campus maps, then we go and take a snapshot of -- say Fisher Library, and The Quadrangle etc., and upload them on Flickr. Then we use the mapping app to create the university's Photo Maps so that people can see the exterior of the buildings they are trying to find a way to. We can also take photos of different USYD libraries (both inside and outside the library), upload them on Flickr, and create 'Tag' particularly for each library. When people use the University's Photo Maps, they will be able to see the tags which can take them to a set of photos of different libraries!

In the university environment, I think the Creative Commons materials must be use for research, studying and teaching purposes only. I have seen some library materials which are the properties of academic staff that they provided to the library for the purpose of studying of the students they are teaching. I think this is a good example of Creative Commons materials. (Please correct me if I get the idea of Creative Commons materials wrong!)

I'll now try uploading some photos on my Flick...

RSS Feeds

I managed to get into Google Reader and subscribed to USYD 23 Things blog using RSS.

I also subscribed to the blogs of everyone participating in this course (who already set up a blog).

Well, I had 1 difficulty while trying to subscribe to these blogs, it's when I tried to find "Add a subscription" button!!

Oh no, that's embarrasing -*-

I have not yet tried to subscribe to any other blogs apart from those mentioned above but sure I'll do that soon.

From now, I can keep myself up-to-date with everyone's new posts on the blogs.

Hope you all have a good weekend.

1st Step

Hi All

Well, this is the first time I use Blogger!

I wanted to participate in the 23 Things course last year, but I missed out.

I'm glad I can be part of the course this year.

I want to learn how to use blogs and other Web 2.0 technologies so I know what can be done using these technologies.

And yeah, my 1st step on Blogger isn't that hard!
